Day 8-12: Fairbanks

I’m certain you are wondering why so long in Fairbanks, right?! Well we didn’t really want to be here this long, but we ran into a few issues. The biggest one was our shoe covers were torn up after being on the Dalton Highway. They took a good beating like our bodies. So we had to call Bontrager and have new ones shipped. And shipping to Alaska overnight isn’t always feasible, well because it is Alaska. Also, we had a latch on Aurora’s trailer break as well. So that added to the list of things that needed to be sent out. And that discovery wasn’t until 2 days into staying in Fairbanks.

Of course we utilized that time in Fairbanks to continue to work on our website and social media. I took a whole day to go through video and then create a video for Youtube. Believe it or not, the video making is very time consuming. The day flies by when being invested in finishing a video. And again, thank you sun for never going down. You are my energy!

Did we only work in these few days? Oh heavens no, we had to to enjoy a little too. While riding on our bikes to a nearby bike shop (Beaver Sports) for a few extra things, a gentleman started up a short conversation with us welcoming us to Fairbanks and wishing us luck on our trip. He didn’t leave before letting us know the the best watering hole in town..The Marlin.

The Marlin. What a cool spot! It was in the basement, under a taco shop, right next to Beaver Sport. How convenient. The guy was right, it was the coolest little bar. However we went on a Sunday around noon, and nobody was there except 1 customer. Haha. Well 3 now. There was a set up for a band, a few tables, chairs, probably a 10 foot bar, and when you went up a couple of steps there was a whole other room full of some games (pool table, etc.) with more chairs and tables. You could even see there were valuables left behind from the customers from he night before,. Must of been a good night! I could easily imagine myself shaking my tail feather to some loud, rock band all night if I was here the night before! But we weren’t here the night before, so we settled with the bartender and his “pandora” of music he had going on. Of course, I couldn’t help myself and put in some request. “Hey Mr. Bartender, can you please play…..” Ha! He was fun! He had no problem pleasing his only 3 customers! lol. Needless to say we had a great time, chatting, drinking our ALASKAN seltzers, and there may have been a dance move or two in the mix.

We also got to eat some great food here. Some delicious Thai food, lots of pizza, and several burgers! Oh and for some reason I got totally obsessed with the muffins at our hotel (Golden North Inn)! A daily muffin keeps the doctor away? Probably not, but I made up my own reasons to eat them. lol And then I heard, “Consume those calories. You’re going to need it” William would say. So I said what the heck and indulged.

So after days of rest, some fun, food bulking, washing up the bikes, laundry, and work accomplished, it was almost time to hit the road again. We weren’t too happy about the long break between rides, but we were eager to hit the road again. We made sure to get a good nights rest and planned to wake early to start our 3rd leg of our trip. So legs power up and body wake up, because with such a long break it’s like starting all over again! Lets hope for good weather!
