Day 1: 14 Degrees

Today we finally made it to the most northern place in America that you can get to by road..Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. It welcomed us with a temperature in the teens and a wind of 11mph. Oh thank you Prudhoe Bay! Haha. It was the kind of weather that made you ask yourself WHHHHHY??? Why am I putting myself through the pain that is about to come? And then came the answer quickly and proud. It’s for a good cause! To raise money for underprivileged children and mental health. The motivation was real! So off we went layering our bodies with pants, shirts, jackets, scarfs, socks, beanies, and hit the road.

The first several miles were full of chilly toes, fingers, and something that felt like whatever skin that was exposed was being wind burnt. But believe it or not a couple of miles past the starting line came a little warmer temperatures, some sun, and our blood a flowing.

It had been several months since we’ve ridden a bike and that ride lasted only 20 miles. And prior to that was 2 years since we put our rumps on a bike saddle. So needless to say this first day for sure was going to be a kick in the teeth. We took things in increments. We decided to ride 10 miles then break for more water, food, and just some simple rest and stretching. We also forgot how hard it is to multitask while riding a bike. Like eating and riding at the same time! Ha. Sounds so stupid but it felt like it was hard to catch your breath. I’m sure the cold temperature didn’t help the lungs either. But anyways we did make it to 42 miles today. 42 miles of which developed sore neck, shoulders, arms, legs, and of course the tooshy! So 42 miles seems to be enough for us today and deciding to tuck ourselves in early now and hoping for an early start tomorrow. So catch you tomorrow Dalton Highway for some more fun!
