Day 27: Almost out of the YUKON

So today we were finishing one of our last legs in the Yukon. Teslin treated us well, but onward we must go. The first few moments of this day took us over the Nisutlin Bay Bridge. A bridge with beautiful views of the bay. The sun was shining and it was nice and warm today. Not too warm to start anyways.

Shortly after climbing our first hill out of Teslin there was a motorcyclist on the side of the road. He waived us down, only to find out he was on or soon to be on our same route. He was headed to Prudhoe Bay, AK to start his own journey down the Pan-American Highway, but on a motorcycle instead. We’d been very fortunate to meet such nice people from all over the world. It really seemed to keep our spirits high.

The day was once again full of ascending and descending. It was a long one today. 100 miles we thought. Wellllll, scratch that! It ended up being around 140 miles! Whoa! Longest one yet! Couldn’t believe it, nor could my tush! But not to worry, I did find a $4.00 seat cover at a dollar store in Whitehorse I forgot to tell you about that had relieved most of the pain I was experiencing during our long distances. You know I thought, it was cheap, might not work, but what could it hurt to try. And bam! It helped significantly.

One place we were tempted to stop and did, was a place called Rancheria. It had a boardwalk that led to a waterfall, which was pretty neat. The walk was around 3/4 miles long, and super easy. And worth the little stroll. Especially to give our bodies a little break from cycling.

The sun was shining all day for us today. Thank goodness since we needed all the energy we could grasp with such a long hall to Junction 37. When we finally made it to Junction 37 we were greeted by a couple of dogs. There are even signs warning customers at the gas station there, that there are dogs on the loose. Another words, if you don’t like it, keep on a moving. They were very friendly dogs though, that earned themselves a few pets after a long ride we had.

We were happy to have finally make it after 13 hours of traveling today. The nights still don’t get completely dark here so it worked to our benefit riding for a long day. Wondering how our legs will feel tomorrow, since we need to keep putting in around 100 miles a day to meet our deadline back to the lower 48. Oh well, I guess ill have to let you know tomorrow. Until then, going to sleep tight one last night in the Yukon. For we were only a few kilometers from B.C.
