Day 21: Tired of Sweater Weather

So thank you destruction Bay for a good nights rest! I truely needed it! Needed it mentally and physically. However, even though I was quite rested the first 30 miles was rough!

We woke to light rain showers. Not what we were hoping for and temperatures in the 30’s. Seriously William give up the weather forecasting. He was telling me it would be in the 60-70 ‘s by the time we got to our destination (Haines junction) today. Ha! Jokes on us. Rain, damp, and cold. Oh wait…don’t forget about the wind! We had to peddle across one of the windiest areas in the Yukon today Silver City. It was the areas that not only went around the lake but went across the lake as well. Of course that part of our day happened to be in the first 30 miles when my legs felt super heavy. I felt like we were snailing along.

We stopped at a rest stop after those first 30 miles to rest up for about 30 minutes. I needed it. We also needed it to change up some clothing. We were sweating so much under the rain jackets that we were staying cold. So we put a new layer of dry clothes on to tackle the next 36 miles to Haine City. Oh and I can’t forget we ate some PB&J at this stop! Why you ask! Because I think that’s what saved me! PB&J Poweeer!

Oh boy did that rest area help! My legs were back and I was good to climb and push like a champ. 20 miles went fast. As we stopped to rest the tush for a moment after those 20 miles we realized we were dodging some bad storms behind us. But they were coming for us. William said we’d make it to Haine City in a hour! I thought “are you crazy? No way.” But he was right…this time.  How did that happen you ask?!?! Downhill for miles!!!! My bike computer got up to 34 mph on the way down at points. We were cruising! We enjoyed every second of it. And as we got to the end of our cruising and almost to our destination, that storm I was talking about, caught us and down came the rain! Ughhh but we were almost there. Oh well i said. I’ll take it after we just cruised downhill for so long. We went from 3,300 feet to 2,100 feet after all said and done.

We were wet and ready for rest and we really needed some good WiFi to get the third video out. But we were out of luck again. The motel we decided to stay in for the night and supposedly the whole area really doesn’t have great WiFi. We went to a local bar where the bartender mentioned that people in the area pay over $100 /month for “good WiFi “ but she said it’s really just ok and doesn’t always work. This area wouldn’t work for our business apparently.

So after a few chats with the bartender, some nachos, wings, burger and fries, and don’t forget my ice cream cone, back to the motel we went for some good rest. Going to try to push another 100 for tomorrow. So let’s see what the legs have in store for us tomorrow, otherwise 100 won’t happen.
